My parents are divorced, have remarried, but both possess their parental rights.
I know that in CSS profile I was supposed to mention my custodial stepparent, but they also need supporting documentation. It is not specified whether I should submit income information of my custodial stepparent. I am applying to Columbia, Harvard, Dartmouth, Stanford and Yale, and I assume that since I have mentioned my stepfather in CSS, I am supposed to supply documents on my mother, father and stepfather for all these universities. Is that correct?
For the CSS Profile, many schools want the financial information for all 4 - both parents and both stepparents. You will have to check each school’s website for details and requirements. If it’s not clear on the website, contact the international student financial aid staff.
Here is Columbia’s info…clearly stating that they need financial info for both the parents and step-parents. https://cc-seas.financialaid.columbia.edu/howtoapply
Good luck
Let start with…you are an international student, right?
What does this mean? If your parents have remarried, it’s legal.
If your parents have remarried…there is what you are supposed to do.
Profile. Your custodial parent completes the Profile and includes custodial parent and spouse income and assets.
Your non-custodial parent completes the non-custodial parent Profile using that parent and spouse income and assets.
Did you do that?
Are you trying to figure out which documents to send for verification or IDOC?
Call the colleges and ask. I’m going to guess that you will need to submit documentation for your custodial parent and spouse. Ask about who submits non-custodial parent…and spouse.
Send everything they ask for. The colleges will USE whatever their institutional need based aid formulas require.
I know you didn’t ask for this advice…but I sure hope you have some more likely schools for admission on your application list. For international students, the admission rates at these schools is single digits.
In addition, a few are need aware for international students which means your ability to pay will be considered when your application for admission is considered.
Does this mean that they’re just living together but not married?
