I am currently a University Studies student at Virginia Tech with no idea of what I want to major in. I am looking at Engineering and Architecture because I am pretty good at math, but I'm really afraid of the science I would have to take. I'm not too bad at chemistry and I should be able to manage physics but any other science is killer for me. I am fascinated by computers....but was not interested in the computer programming class I took my senior year of high school.

What does an engineer do on a normal day in their job? Is it repetitive? Is it rewarding? And finally, how much free time do you have? Thanks!

Your questions are way too broad. Nobody will be able to give you answers because there are too many variables. Engineering covers a very wide range of jobs depending on the specific type of engineering and industry. Even within specific engineering majors, there will be a wide range of jobs and duties that an engineer will focus on. Some engineers are always in the office, some are in the field, some do both, some might do repetitive tasks, other might not, some will find it rewarding, others might not…you get the picture.

I can tell you that an engineering degree will provide many options for you if you can complete it. It is one of the most difficult yet respected and versitile undergraduate degrees you can get. It can provide many challenging opportunities and very good compensation. However, if you do not like science and mathematics or struggle at these subjects, it might be very difficult to get the degree. Engineering curriculums are very rigorous and require a lot of hard work and dedication to be successful.
