Should I put Etsy shop in my EC's?

So I have been running a shop for several years now and going to conventions and I’ve made quite a bit of money doing it. Should I put this on the common app? How should I describe it? Should I leave a link to my store? I don’t sell anything inappropriate but I do sell a lot of nerdy things that I don’t know would be thought well of in an application review.

Yes. It makes you more interesting.

It’s a business and your making good money so definitely include it. Describe it as a business. Talk about sales volume, $ earned, volume increase, anything that tells a good story about your creative and entrepreneurial skills. It’ll help differentiate you from other application readings.

Definitely include it!
By the way, what kinds of things do you sell on Etsy? I am curious.

Can you post a link here or message it to me? I’m really curious to see what kinds of things a high schooler would be selling on Etsy… that’s super cool btw!!!

And yes I think you should list it

Sure, If you are making money you might want to put it as a job rather than an EC. No need to put a link in.

Absolutely. Click on the “work” line on the pull-down menu (commonapp). On the lines below, detail a bit ,if it doesn’t fit on the common app “Activities” lines , add a rubric in the “Additional Information” box (Etsy shop: <- title to help them figure out what you’re talking about, + description of activities/stuff sold/how much money you make/if it’s used to help the family, set aside for college…)

Absolutely, but agree it may make sense to describe it as a job rather than an EC.

thanks for the advice everyone! I won’t share my specific shop because I really don’t want that kind of thing floating around on the net but I have two. One is for the sale of more nerdy items and the other is for the sale of my shoes. I am shoe designer and maker, I make men’s shoes in my size that way if they don’t sell I get to keep them  The sales are significant but there are fewer sales because I make fewer items, each pair is a LOT of work and requires a huge time commitment. Most pairs are between 200 and 300 dollars a piece and I have made nearly ten sales since I opened my Etsy shop at the beginning of summer and I have done commission work locally.
Can I submit a portfolio of the shoes I design? is that thing? Like I make them start to finish and it really is my craft but I think that might be kind of weird…like look everyone pictures of my feet !

You could put together a portfolio of photos of your creations. I think that would be great. What you are doing is creative and unique. It also shows passion, dedication, and organization, among other skills and attributes.

lol here I was thinking this thread might be dead so I asked in another thread. thanks for the info!
While it is a very dedicated craft it’s also some extra $$$ on the side, lord knows I’ll need it

Take pictures of the drawings/Blue prints you make as well as some specialized assembly; it’s indeed highly specialized and highly looked for like in the luxury industry. The process as well as the finished product would make for an awesome portfolio indeed.

I would suggest including a link to the site in your description of this–I see no downside.
