I am just wondering, as I am going through the pre-med prereqs (which are similar to the prereqs for trasnfering to a UC biology program), should I write on my essay or statement that I am pre-med student?
For extracurricular activities, in order to increase my chance of getting into a UC molecular and cellular biology program, should I do more of the “science-based” research / experiments instead of “medical field” volunteering / physician shadowing / school activities such as being a member of pre-med club and etc? Do the admission officers consider ECAs related to pre-meds / med not suitable / helpful for a biology program?
It depends on the essay prompt/nature of the personal statement. You should definitely incorporate your interest in medicine.
Honestly, just do what you feel would be more fulfilling to you. You’re most likely going to have to talk about at least ONE EC, might as well be one in which you have a genuine interest in. If I were you, I’d focus on shadowing and looking for volunteering opportunities in the healthcare field. If you can secure a research opportunity that is related to your major, that’s great too!
