Should I re take? Can you advise me on ways to improve please!

Yeah... so I checked my SAT score today and got a 2100-740 Math, 760 CR, 600(9 essay) Writing
I want to apply to UT, Texas A&M, Rice, Penn State, Rutgers, USC
Should I retake? If so, How can I improve my score (especially in writing)?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I’m applying to UT, A&M, Rice, and NYU. It seems we share prospective colleges :p

Your SAT score is fine as it is fo the first 3 universities, but for PennState, Rutgers and USC, more than that 2100 will be needed. Don’t retake your SAT unless you know you will get above 2200. Your score as fine as it is (considering i only made a 2020), but I hope your GPA and your ex.curr. activities are both well off. You’ll need it for the last 3

andy.. you are a shoe in for penn state main. psu doesn’t even look at the writing section so your your 1500 will definitely get you in there. as a matter of fact people don’t even look at your app for psu. a computed does everything because so many people apply. i think you would have the most trouble with USC because they do look at writing. so if you really want to go there i would retake. and to improve your writing score just study some grammar rules. the same rules show every time on the SAT so go over a lot of practice tests. you’re also a shoe in for rutgers too. i don’t know what user3725 is talking about.

I Am Crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

aren’t rutgers and pennstate ivy league? or am i just stupid…

neither are ivy league, theyre state universities. University of Pennsylvania is ivy league however, but OP isnt applying there.

also Rice is the most competitve school of all those, so i wouldnt necessarilly group it with UT and A&M

****, i got rutgers & darthmouth mixed up just as i mixed upenn and pennstate

…As the the entire Penn State community lets out a groan of disgust. Penn State University Park= Big Ten, State College, Nittany Lions. U Penn= Ivy League, Philadelphia, Quakers. I know U Penn kids get upset when people mistake the two, but we get just as annoyed. Anyway, best of luck.

your math + cr (1500) score is very good. I don’t know how important the writing score is for the schools in your list. But with more prep, if you think you can get that writing score up, then consider a retake. A higher score will make you even more competitive especially for USC and Rice, and could open the door for some merit aid. Best of luck andy.

Writing score isn’t important,so it is unnecessary to make further improvement on your SAT.

Thanks for the input!

USC superscores so if u retake…u can focus on writing if u want to go there

Assuming you are a Texas resident, (since you are applying to A&M, UT, Rice) you only need to be the top 10% of your class to get auto acceptance into UT and A&M.

I’ve talked to the senior associate admission officer of Rice face to face a few days ago for a good 15 minutes. She says that Rice likes to see students who are leaders of clubs. That doesn’t mean that you have to be president of every club. She says that kids who are passionate about one thing is more palatable than a kid that is all over the place.

my friend was accepted into Rice.
2100/730 Spanish(non native)/800 Chem
NHS, valedictorian, self studied 4 extra AP course (received 5’s on 8/9)

she has a minimal amount of EC though.

hope this helps you :]
