Here’s the problem:
I got a 800(Math) 710(reading) BUT a 640(writing) with a 9 essay. Total 2150.
Now, since I am applying to UT Austin and Texas A&M, I don’t really know if it’s worth taking again. I’m going to apply for both of their engineering schools (Petroleum and Chemical). Yes I am in the top 7 percent of my class and I am a resident in Texas so I DO apply for auto admit (obviously i still have to apply to the colleges within the university though). So my question is should i take the test again and potentially lose my perfect math just to potentially raise what could be the least looked section for the schools I am applying to? Oh and I got a 32 on ACT (34 math, 34 English 32 read 29 sci) if that helps. Please give some info, because i really don’t want to focus on sat and then take it again and possibly get a worse score except in writing. Thanks
Based on your scores and your GPA (assumed from your class rank), you are very much on target and above average for UT.
Here are average scores for accepted UT applicants:

If you are a rising senior, it’s probably a better strategy to focus on your college essays instead of improving your scores. If you do choose to improve your scores, you could probably apply to places like MIT or Caltech with a 100 point improvement. Remember, extracurriculars and letters of recommendations count for quite a bit during the application process.
Good job on the score!
Well thanks for the advice, but most likely going to take the sat and act again anyway
Writing is so easy to improve, I would take it again. Use Erica Meltzer’s SAT grammar guide. It takes a very short amount of time to go through the book. It raised my writing by 150+ points.
I wouldn’t take it again, take a SAT subject test specifically for writing/reading/english.
