Hey so I'm in a predicament with my SATs

took em twice

1st go:
CR: 700
M: 660
W: 800

2nd:
CR: 750
M: 660 (ARGGHH)
W: 700

...should I re-take to get math into 700's? I'm applying to some competitive schools (sub-ivies), just trying to decide if it's worth it or not. thanks.

First off, congratulations on your writing and CR scores! Now for your question, I could say no and make you happy, but I’m not doing that. I would recommend retaking the SATs to get at least a 700+ on the math. That 700+, if you are unhooked, is a major component that gets you through the first and very objective round of admissions. To even qualify as a reasonable applicant for consideration, you need at least a legitimate SAT score of a 700+ on each section of the SAT.

Like annoyingaakash12, I want to say congrats on the writing and critical reading results!!! That’s very impressive, considering how most students do not score as marvelously. HOWEVER, math definitely needs a boost, but please bear with my boring advice. If you are forgetting certain formulae or problem-solving skills, brush off your books and do LOTS of practice problems. The best way to tackle any type of math is to practice, practice, practice! Doing and becoming familiar with all sorts of problems allows you to have fewer surprises or time-wasters on test day.

I feel that I’m the opposite of you; my CR and writing are poor, but my math is not. I’m not really a humanities person, but I’m going off on a tangent here…

Back to what’s important: re-take the SAT if getting into a “good” college means a lot to you. Be quick, but careful. Don’t choose an answer just because it looks right; work it out!

I think that’s all I have to say. Good luck!!! :D
