I am an IB Diploma student from Canada.
I am doing really bad in IB right now.
SL: Lang and Lit, Chemistry, and Math
HL: History, Business and Management, and Mandarin B
Lang and Lit: 4
Chem: 3
Math: 4
History: 4
Business: 5
Mandarain: 6
Our TOK class has a grade out of 7 and I am getting 5/7.
I am thinking if I should repeat grade11/IB Year1…
I am aiming for universities in the states, and my dream school is NYU.
I know I am not gonna get into NYU with these grades…
My gr9 and 10 grades were around GPA 3.58. It is okay I guess… It is kind of frustrating to see how much I dropped this year…
My SAT scores is kinda low too…
HELP?
Not-so-great suggestion: drop IB, attend regular classes at the university level in grade 12 (so don’t repeat grade 11), and focus on improving your average, extra-curriculars, and test scores.
You can repeat the year, of course, but you’'ve met the minimum requirements for graduating with an IB diploma so I don’t see a compelling reason for repeating a year, which generally has a really negative connotation to it in public schools.
Speak to your counselor about this.
ObliviousPanda, why do you say the IB Diploma has a really negative connotation to it in public schools? I have a grade 11 student in IB HL Bio, English, Business and economics, SL Math and Italian. Is there a reason we should switch out of IB? She’s looking to study abroad.
@mauiluver I think she meant that repeating a year has a really negative connotation to it.
