Should I Report This Award to Colleges I Already Applied To

I won a contest in my school for the Voice of Democracy speech by the VFW. I then went on to represent my district and I was chosen by my state as one of the top 6 district representatives (there's a lot of districts) and then out of that top 6 in the state I ended up getting third (3rd). Should I send out emails/letters to the colleges I applied to stating this accomplishment or is third place too insignificant to report? I mean i got $150 out of it lol.

It can't hurt, but if you were to update the colleges, i would write a snail mail letter to your admissions officer, and supplement it with a photocopy of the certificate, and the contact info for someone who can verify that you in fact did win the award.

I never got a certificate. Just a check, a mousepad, and a pin.

Congratulations! Yes, you should send the colleges that info. You don't need to send them proof. They'll trust your word. Anyway, they can easily verify your win by contacting the VFW.

Hey it certainly won't hurt! I don't know why so many applicants are so shy about putting their best foot forward but don't hesitate to tell them about anything that can help them get to know your achievements better. If there's a time to be modest, the college admissions process is not that time!

Agreed, it won't hurt. And, if worse comes to worse and you get rejected, wouldn't you rather know that you put all of your accomplishments out there, rather than thinking, "I wonder if I would have been accepted if I had told them about this...".

Yes...you've been recognized at the state-level - quite an accomplishment. Congrats...and good luck!
