I have the opportunity to take another subject test tomorrow, but I don't feel ready and honestly I'm just sick of all the standardized testing. Currently I have a 740 French and 770 Chemistry. I'm applying to the Ivies and other highly selective schools. Will my subject test scores hurt me? Do I REALLY need to take another one?

You will not be at any disadvantage. I don’t know of any school (besides Georgetown) that requires 3 subject tests. Top colleges don’t care whether you met or exceeded their subject test requirement - there are plenty of Ivy admits every year who just took two subject tests.

Thanks for the reply! I’m mostly worried about how high my scores are…seems like they are very mediocre compared to all the Ivy admits.

Why do you think would they hurt you?

One more Subject test score is not going to make a difference in your admissions decisions.

Yes, your scores are the norm, which means (at least for Subject tests), that you’re a competitive candidate.

I’m scared that they will hurt me because they are pretty low compared to those of other applicants :/

Anything over 700 is good. Since when was a 770 in Chem low? A 740 in French is fine. My kid took the SAT and ACT only once. His first SAT2 Math score was a 690 so he had to take it again. The second time around he got a 780. Retake these ridiculous tests only of you are below 700. You’re done!

Retaking over 700 tests will indicate an obsession with test scores and getting 30 pts higher on a test will have no measurable difference.

You’re done testing, move on to other more interesting and productive matters :).

Thanks for all the replies!
Bump for more opinions?
