test scores - should I retake the SAT?

hey guys, please let me know how my test scores are? I’m currently a junior in high school, and I’m just not a very good standardized test taker so I’m scared my test scores will impact my application to both summer programs and eventually college… (i’m looking at highly competitive top20 colleges). How much do test scores matter? would my strong transcript (by senior year i’ll have taken 14 ap classes - the most my school allows - and I have straight As) make up for my bad scores?

SAT: 1560 (780,780, 7/7/7 essay)
PSAT: scores haven’t come out yet but I think that went well I’m expecting at least a 1500
SAT Subject Tests:
Math II: 800 (wow my one good score lol)
Chem: 750

Should I retake the SAT? Or is 1560 good enough…? I’m not really happy with the score but at the same time it is still 99% percentile so I guess its okay? idk

What about Chem SAT? how bad of a score is 750? I know it’s definitely not the best, but do I need to retake it? how much do subject test scores really matter anyway in the grand scheme of things? I’m just so sick of standardized tests at this point that I don’t want to even think about taking the chem sat again lol but i will if i have to.

also what do you guys think about the number of sat subject tests to take? I know most colleges only recommend 2, but should I send more? Should I also take a humanities test to show i’m well rounded? any thoughts help. thanks!

You are done with testing. Your scores are excellent and no, you don’t need to take a third SAT subject test to prove well-roundedness; your APs will do that. The only school that I know of that recommends three subject tests is Georgetown.

These scores are more than sufficient for top 20 schools. Best of luck to you.

Your chem score is not “low”; a 1560 is not “bad”, and your quotes above are beyond disingenuous.

Your scores will not be the reason you get rejected from any college . The “woe is me” attitude that you seem to have in this thread and some of your others though, if apparent in your essays and/or recs, will most definitely not win you points. Good luck.

No. A 3rd Subject Test will not demonstrate “well-roundedness” nor do all colleges necessarily want all well-rounded applicants.

I just got my chem sat subject test scores back and I got a 750. I’m pretty disappointed, especially considering I was getting 770-780 on the practice tests. Is 750 still a good enough score to get into schools such as MIT, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, the Ivies, etc? I also have an 800 Math II and 1560 SAT, and a 4.7 weighted GPA. By senior year, I’ll have taken 14 APs, the most my school allows. Will this compensate for my low Chem score? or do I need to retake it? What do you think is the minimum science subject test score for top 20 schools?

no i don’t have a woe is me attitude i’m just being realistic. When everyone else applying to MIT has a strong application similar to mine, but they have a 800 chem sat and I have a 750 chem sat, who’s going to get in? them.

thanks for your help though!!! @skieurope

Skieurope is right. Those are not bad test scores AT ALL and MIT will not reject you based on a 750 Chem. You need to chill, you’re done testing. You need to show MIT who you are in your essays and your teacher recommendations. You also need to consider that if you’re not happy with a 1560 then maybe MIT isn’t the place for you. It’s practically impossible to achieve perfect grades there.

Perhaps both. Perhaps neither. Admissions to highly selective colleges is more than just SAT scores, which other users, who have been through this process, have been telling you for the last year. Good luck, though.
