Should I retake in Dec? Thanks

Okay so the first time a took the SATs was in Dec of '06 and I got
CR:740
M:650
W:730
Essay-8

I studied only for the math section and then took the Oct test only to get
CR:800
M:660
W:710
Essay-9

I expected to go up on CR just because I knew I could do better based on my ability in that area, but my math score only went up 10 points after I studied only that area.

Should I order handscoring to see if my Math score is incorrect and/or should I retake in Dec? Also, if my Regular Decision apps are in and are complete with the Oct scores, will Dec scores arrive at colleges in time or will they consider my app without them?

I'm really shooting for a 700 on math at least. : /

i think 2170 and 2190 superscored are really good scores and idk how it will reflect for colleges to c u retaking hte test for 40 pts especially since there is a high probability that ur CR of 800 could be lower. i think u should concentrate on other things than the SAT.

They don't know that I am only wanting 40 more points. Is it excessive to take the test three times? I know people who have taken it more than that. A friend of mine took the test for a third time and ended up with a 1520/1600 which was over 100 points higher than his previous score.

I am happy with my overall score, but I just know I can do better on the math, and I do not believe a 660 reflects my true abilities. I don't know if I should waste $50 for handscoring or if I should get a math tutor and retake in Dec.

Any other opinions? Could using a mechanical pencil on part of the test screw up the scores?

If you're sure you can score 700+ on the math, go and retake it.

There are threads on CC where students recommend using regular (non-mechanical) pencils because the bubbling goes a little faster. Bring several in case they break.
I wouldn't pay the money for a hand-score. The results look consistent enough to be believable.
