I got a 33 composite. 35 in English and 35 in math and 31 in science and 29 in reading. I scored a 9 on my essay and a 32 combined English writing. I want to go to UVA for engineering or Carnegie Mellon. What's your opinion? Is this okay good or great for these schools?

For Carnegie Mellon a 33 is at the 75th percentile of scores of admitted students. At UVA a 33 is above the 75th percentile. While this by no means garuntees admission, it makes it so that if you do get denied by the colleges, it is not because of your test scores. A 33 is in the 99th percentile nationally. I would not reccomend retaking as your lowest scores were in science and reading, both of which require much practice to improve (well, there are some strategies for science, but odds are that you’re already following those strategies). Use your time doing something else.

Are the math and English sections the most important? I noticed there is only released averages for math and English but not the other sections?

Read as much as you can this summer and take the test one more time.

bump on Yung Khalifas’s 2nd question!!!

it’s true, i would say the maths and english sections are really important, but colleges look at overall composites to make sure u didn’t do horribly in other sections

Do you have any evidence that proves Math end English are most important?

I’ve only seen published averages for composite. Plus, ACT claims the test should be viewed as one big test, not individual sections.

Exactly my question. I know some schools like Georgia Tech convert then to math and cr but I noticed that when colleges released their averages they have the ACT composite (25-75) percentile along with the math and English sections. But never the reading and science.
