Should I retake SAT as a transfer applicant.

In high school I messed up practically everything.

3.5 Weighted
3.36 UC GPA
3.2 unweighted
1600 SAT

I did not have the same drive as I do now.
Currently as a Computer Science major with a 4.0 GPA, I am planning to send applications as a sophomore transfer to Stanford, Georgia Tech, and Cornell. Should I retake the SAT in hopes to get a 2300+ superscore?

Also if I do not get into one of those 3, I will send applications as a junior transfer to UC Berekely, UCLA, and UCSD.

Should I put in a bunch of my time to get a higher SAT score?

Well. personally i think if you have a low GPA then you should definitely improve the SAT at the least.

Check with the schools you are considering. Many colleges will not accept SATs taken in college because they are scaled for HS students.

+1 to Erin’s Dad. In general, if you already have at least 2 full-time semesters of undergraduate study, colleges neither require nor look at the SAT. And by “in general”, I mean I am not aware of a single school that does look at SAT scores at that point.*

The rigor of, and your performance in, your studies will be the key to their academic assessment of you. If you can work your way into some academic honor societies, that will certainly have some benefit.

Essentially, your efforts are better placed toward achieving excellence in your current work. Retaking (and preparing to retake) the SAT would only distract you from that.

(Unless you have a large, significant gap in your studies and are returning to college)

Well, I wouldn’t be quite so firm as Dream School Dropout. SATs are still required at some schools, like Penn. [Penn: Institutional Research & Analysis](http://www.upenn.edu/ir/Common%20Data%20Set.html) But I don’t believe you can retake them while in college.

So retaking the SAT would be a waste of my time?

Check with the schools
