I took the SATs the year after high school while doing a gap year program. I took the test cold and scored very high on the CR reading, but very poorly on the math section. I am currently at community college, planning to transfer fall 2015, and I feel that my grades, ECs, and recommendations are competitive for the top schools. However I can’t decide whether to retake the SATs. If I do, I know I will bring my writing score up but I am not sure if my math score will improve much. Might it hurt my chances to be taking the SATs again this late? Would it be worth it to increase it by 100-200 points my overall score? Please advice.
If the schools you are considering applying to ask for SAT scores AND allow scores post-HS, go for it. I believe some schools don’t allow post-HS/pre-college SAT scores so I would just check transfer requirements for each school.
That being said, a 200 point increase is a pretty sizable jump. If you think you can do it, I see no downside.
Redo it. Studying for the math section will for sure raise your score.
I’m retaking my ACT.
Ummm, hate to break this to you, but if you want to transfer for fall 2015, then you’ve missed the last opportunity to take the test this year already. I’m facing the same problem
@overthinker95
you are overthinking xD

For transfer most colleges will accept Jan SAT and Feb ACT.
Oh, I know that. I just thought that the OP hasn’'t registered yet, because it’s too late for that now Also, the username does reflect my usual state of mind pretty well haha
@Romulus
You need to check with the transfer admissions office at each place on your list. You also should pay a visit to the Transfer Advisor’s office at your CC. That person will know the policies of all of the places that students at your CC normally apply to, and can give you a hand with the whole process. After all, helping students transfer out is that person’s whole job.
The admissions depts dont require SAT scores for transfer students with at least 2 semesters under their belts btw…
