Hi, I'm a junior and aspiring to apply to top-tier schools. I also want to pursue physics or mathematics as a major. Here's my basic standardized test resume.

ACT: Composite: 35
Science: 36
Math: 35
English: 35
Reading: 32

SAT I: 2220
Math: 760 (Got hit by a horrible curve... missed 1 question)
Writing: 750 (Essay: 9/12)
CR: 710

SAT II: (I took both Math's to increase my chances of getting at least 1 800... I thought it was important... haha.)
Math I: 800
Math II: 800
Physics: Going to take physics in the last subject tests of this semester

My question is basically this: In light of my scores, would it be prudent to retake SAT I to perhaps raise my CR score, or is it not significant enough for someone seeking a math/physics major from a top-tier school?

Thanks.

that’s already a high enough score. There’s no point in taking the SAT now. Since you’re going into a science/math major, no point in raising CR.

Have you only taken it once?
If I were you, I would retake in either May or October in order to get Math and Writing to 800s, and superscore your way to a 2310.
Most colleges superscore so it would be pretty disadvantageous to only take it once. Math and Writing are all about practice, so getting those to an 800 is not too hard.

What I’m saying is that if you’re aiming for something like MIT, Columbia, or Cornell, just take it once more because boosting Math and Writing is not hard. Plus, you don’t want to have any regrets as you apply next year.

Haha, that’s what sucks about it. I missed 1 in the math section and 1 in the writing MC. From what I have seen, missing 0 in writing and getting a 9/12 could possibly get me an 800 in writing… 2 stupid questions… But ya, I was thinking about taking it again for that, too. But is the CR good enough for my planned major?

Sorry about bumping the thread, but I have another question: Do you think that, with practice tests, I can get my SAT I score very close to 2400? Or is luck too involved?

a lot of it is luck I think- especially for CR which seems to be the area you’re lacking in. Some SAT’s have easier vocab, more straight-forward passages, and more shallow questions than others so I would just stick with what you have

Once you get over a 2300, it does seem that luck is a lot more involved in where your final score ends up
