Should I retake the ACT?

I just got my ACT score back and I’m both thrilled and upset. I got a 33.25, meaning that I was only 1 question away from my dream school’s (MIT) average. I got 35 E, 34 M, 34R, and 30S (ouch). Is it worth retaking to get that magic 34?

Are you a senior or junior?

If you still have time I would re-take but don’t stress over 1 point. You have to ask yourself, is the 1 point worth the time, effort, and money? I think (based off your other posts) you are a great applicant for MIT with a 33, but if you want to retake it, go for it! Nothing to lose.

I would retake. My DD’s ACT tutor says it takes 10 practice tests to hit your stride in the science section. I found that you can print out only the science section of practice tests on the CrackACT website. Good luck!

if you have the time, why not?

Just retake it! If you can spend 4 hours just doing whatever, then you might as well try to get the magic 34. And besides, if you end up scoring lower the second time and get like a 31/32, then ACT always grants you the option to erase your score. GOOD LUCK
