I have taken the SAT 2 times, the October 2017 test and the April school day.
October- Math: 760, English: 610 Composite: 1370
April- Math: 730, English: 720 Composite: 1450
Overall superscore: 1480
I am planing to apply to competitive schools. Target schools that I have discussed and agreed upon with my counselor (considering many factors) include Boston University and Brandeis.
I do plan to apply to reach schools.
I got the 1450 without studying at all (I credit AP lang w/my English score) so I feel like if I invest some time my English could go up.
Lmk what you think of retaking.
You answered your own question. You got 1450 without studying. You think you could get better scores if you study.
I wonder why one would take SAT without studying. It isn’t free, is it?
@rphcfb
I took the sat close to ap exams and school was really busy. I studied for math the 1st time hence the 760. School day was free, school paid for it.
OP, I would recommend that you study for the SAT and give it another shot. If you got a 1450 with minimal to no studying, then IMHO you have a lot of potential. With that said, your future section scores will most definitely be proportional to the time and effort you put into test preparation. Take the test when you are fully ready, not when you are busy with other events (e.g. AP exams). The test might be free thanks to your school’s institutional support, but it’s an opportunity spent nonetheless. Best of luck!
Is there anything you can do with the same time that you would spend studying for the SAT that would raise your chances at getting in to top colleges as much? Are you attending an intellectually demanding summer program or are you competing in a national or international competition? If that’s the case, don’t put the effort into the SAT, focus on winning. Otherwise, there isn’t much else that will offer the same return on the investment of your time.
Just make sure you study effectively - take high quality practice tests and go over your mistakes until you understand the concepts behind the questions.
Take it one more time if you feel that you could do better and maybe clear that 1500 mark for a super score. Also, make sure you take subject tests if your colleges require them. Just remember that a 1480 is already great so I wouldn’t recommend taking the SAT more than one more time.
