I'm a rising senior at a large public high school, ranked first in my class. I am also a white female looking to go into a STEM major. My extracurriculars are okay, consisting mostly of athletics. I am applying to top schools.

I took the ACT twice in my junior year and scored a 31 both times (32 superscored). Should I try to retake in September to score a 32-33? I also took subject tests in June and received a 680 on chemistry. Is this worth retaking in June? I'm not taking any kind of chemistry class next year, so I would just be rereading Barron's on my own time.

since you scored a 31 both times I think you should not retake that again…it might be worth retaking the chem subject test though

Okay, thanks! Any other opinions?

What do you define as top schools? Ivy-caliber or a slightly lower tier? Generally speaking, a sub-33 score should be offset by significant abilities and extracurriculars for an Ivy-level school.

For the subject tests, check if they’re required by the school(s) you are applying to. 700+ typically demonstrates sufficient mastery of the subject, but if the tests aren’t required by the schools you’re applying to, they’re pretty useless.

Hope this helps! :)
