I had a B in precalc ( honors) and today I took my final I knew how to answer all of the questions I just ran out of time and my teacher wouldnt give me an extra minute to guess the answers to the ones i was missing ( it was multiple choice).

I got a 40 % and it dropped my grade down to a D ( 66 %). I'm a junior I was thinking about retaking the class online during the summer.

The class they offer is Pre calculus not Precalculus "honors". If I retake it and get and A will it replace the D on my transcript? Will colleges think that I actually care about my grades? The reason why my grade dropped so much is because I just moved to my new schools and I didnt do many assignments!

From how you describe your results in this class, my sense is that you’re having conceptual problems with the material. Math is one of those areas where you can get blocked. The D suggests that your teacher thinks that you have not grasped the basics.

So, since math (certainly at the pre-Calculus level) is so critical to success in most majors in college, I would be much less worried about whether “an A replaces a D” but rather what it would take to overcome the difficulty you’re experiencing with grasping the material. It’s time I think for drastic steps. Take the class online, and if you’re still experiencing difficulty (my guess is that you will) get tutoring assistance.

Agreed. I’m not so sure you will still have math difficulty if you get your attitude together.
Guessing the answers doesn’t mean knowing the material - you may know it but not know it well if you took that much time. And if you didn’t do your assignmnts, of course you won’t do well. Please look at aleks.com for a great online option. But you’ll have to put in the effort to learn the material, whether it’s online or in a class.

What happens concerning replacement and GPA should depend on your school; colleges won’t ignore the D, but they maybe be comforted to see a higher grade later.

What I meant when I said that I didnt do many assignments is that my grade is based on 2 quizzes and the final, I’m new to the school. What do you mean by getting my attitude together? I had straight A’s my freshman and sophomore year I’m not a slacker, my grades dropped because I moved.

I apologize for unfairly saying you didn’t work appropriately, but stand by my statement that “Guessing the answers doesn’t mean knowing the material - you may know it but not know it well if you took that much time.”. If you are willing and able to motivate yourself to do the work, I think aleks.com would be even more well-suited to you because it has a very good algorithm for learning what you know to avoid wasting your time dealing with things you already understand. It would have no effect on your GPA, of course, but you could probably find a place to explain it on the application.
