Should I retake US History? (3rd time)

I took history in may, and messed up bad getting a 590. (no prep)

this june, i retook it, almost knowing for sure i did much better.

however, i only managed a 640. i was shocked.

to compound this, i took lit, which i thought would get me mid 600's, and i got a surprising 710. i won't be retaking lit.

now here's the question, i have a 590, and a 640 already down on my rec for history.

should i retake it again? a third times seems excessive, but 640 is definitely not enough for me.

btw, i'm applying to almost exclusively UC schools.

Yeah, I don't know if taking it a third time would be a smart idea... might make you look desperate. Is there another SAT II test you can take?

bump bump.

depends. are you from California? imo, UC schools tend to have pretty low SAT scores - which I mainly believe is caused by the preference of Cali students. So if your from Cali, it should be fine. If you are not and depending on your choice of university, I think you will be in the qualified (middle range) but not competitive. Also, I personally do not think you should retake it. It seems a little excessive to take it 3 times. SATs sure its fine but not SAT IIs.

yeah, i'm in california.

i'm not sure if i should retake or if i should try another subject.

as for the UC's, do they penalize you for taking it three times?

are there any blatant disadvantages?

also, is taking it 3 times a bigger detractor even with a 700 or above history score?

they wont penalize you if you take it a third time. HOWEVER, the adcoms might think you are a little obsessive - thus, they might have a bad impression of you. If I were in your position, I'll just take another subject.

omg, i don't know what to do...
