If I plan to defer no matter what and Im not going to apply for Financial Aid this year should I check the box that I am applying for FA or say that Im not and send the forms in when I eventually go and will they give it to me if I originally said I dont need it?

I wouldn't say that you are going to apply because, although a college is need blind, it's always better to not need any aid. You can then apply next year.

If you do not check the box, your file will not be sent to financial aid for consideration for merit in aid grants and scholarships. That is one reason why that question is right there. Also, if you apply "later" and do not meet the deadlines, you are likely to lose out on a lot of the money. For schools that are "need aware" in admissions, some have a policy that if you do not apply initially for financial aid, there is a waiting period before you can be eligible barring an immediate emergency situation just so people do not do what you are doing.

What I mean is that most schools defer for militarty service for two years. If I apply this year and plan to defer than Im not going to send in my FA documents now only later (in two years) so will I lose out completly on future FA and not be allowed to ask for it if I didnt check the box. Im only applying to Need Blind Schools

I don't thinkt that you will loose out, but it depends on your school's policy. Check with the schools you plan on applying to, and if it says that if you don't apply for aid, you won't be eligible in the future. If it does, then you should check the box. But if the school does not say anything like this, I'd not check the box and simply apply for aid before you enrol after your deferal period.

Applying to need blind schools only means that they will not take your ability to pay for college into consideration for admissions purposes only. Just be cause a school is need blind does not mean that they will meet 100% OF YOUR FINANCIAL NEED. Even those meeting 100% of needs can be very heavy with loans.

Financial aid is different ball of wax. At many schools if you don't apply as a freshman you will not be able to apply in subsequent years. You should apply for aid, so you will have some idea of how much college is going to cost. when you get ready to come to school, you must apply again with your financial status at that time (FA must be applied for every year).

I knew a person at NYU who never applied for FA (family paid for 3 years) they had a financial setback and could not pay for senior year, NYU gave her no money
