I have the option reporting it or leaving it blank. While I would like to go with the ladder, would it possibly look like I’m trying to cover up a score that is worse?
Additional Context:
3 in AP Lang
5s in Stat, US Hist, US Gov
Intending to apply to Wharton
Additionally, I had gotten a 690 in the English section of the SAT (1480 overall). While the score is not terrible by any means, it is in fact in the lower range for Penn. If I were to self-report my 3 in lang, would a theme of “weakness in English skills” possibly emerge from my application-- if so how would that affect me?
Personally, I would not report the 3. While I am of the opinion that AP scores carry little weight in the admissions process, a 3 will certainly not help.
I hope that was spellcheck at work, because it’s “latter.” Good luck.
@skieurope Thanks for pointing that out haha. You don’t catch those kinds of silly mistakes in your CC posts when you’ve been up all night trying to finish up college apps…
I think I am going to end up not submitting the 3. However, as I mentioned before, will schools possibly be inclined to think that I am trying to conceal a lower score such as a 2 or a 1?
okay, so this depends. Did you actually take an AP lang course? If not, then they wouldn’t suspect a thing, and it’s totally safe to not report. If you did take the course and it appears on your transcript (or you mention something else on your app like AP scholar), the adcom may very well assume that you probably took the test and didn’t want to report it due to a low score. In such a situation, reporting the 3 would be optimal, since otherwise, the adcom may assume it was a 1 or 2. As far as I know, AP scores are largely used to make sure that you’re proficient in a subject, and 3 means proficient enough. I had the same issue during my SCEA, so I didn’t report any scores at all, but then the AO personally contacted me asking if I wanted to report scores. I went ahead and reported them all (including the 3) and got in. you’ll be fine!
Possibly. But I don’t think omitting one is that big of a deal. Particularly if the HS does not require students to take the AP exam, some students opt not to take the exam for many reasons… Now, if your transcript showed that you took 6 AP classes and you only reported two scores, an AO may very well think that you are hiding something. It is not unknown for an AO to contact the GC for clarification. But one score? I would not worry about it.
Wow, your stats are way better than mine and I still got in. I have a 3 on AP Bio and on AP Lang, which I reported, and I still got in. Plus my SAT is much lower than yours. I think you’ll be just fine if you report it
@abitha7990 I guess that makes me feel a bit better haha. Its just that i’m applying RD and I don’t have that
“ED push” on my side. Plus applying to Wharton is essentially like applying to any other HYPS, so I just wanted to present my self in the best possible light
