Should I self-report AP test scores that I received a 3 on?

I am applying to Vanderbilt, and several other fairly selective schools. Is it looked down upon to report AP scores that you only made a 3 on?

Two options:
(1) Submit the PASSING score
(2) Let admissions officers assume you failed

They receive the scores anyway in the official report, don’t they?
And if that’s not the case, but the classes are marked as AP on your transcript (I don’t know if they are or not, because I’m homeschooled and what AP tests I’ve taken have not been taken along with AP courses) the schools will know probably assume you either took the test and failed it (and a 3 isn’t failing, even if I can totally sympathize with you on it not being super great) or for whatever reason took the class but not the test, probably because you bombed the class and knew you would never succeed on the test. It certainly isn’t necessary to self report it, or any scores at all, for that matter. But I don’t think it’s telling them anything they wouldn’t already know, except possibly in a positive way.
