Hello everyone! I’ve recently started self-studying two APs (U.S Gov and WH), so I can get at least 5 APs logged in by the end of junior year (which I’m going into this year). My usual ambitious self wants to push the envelope further and get two more in to be a National AP Scholar (8 APs), so I’m considering AP Lang for one of them (APES or Human Geo for the other). I’ve heard mixed things about AP Lang–some say it’s a manageable self-study and some say it’s impossible to self-study. I enjoy English, have a strong background in reading, writing, and analysis and have been scoring perfect to near perfect scores on my SAT CR and grammar (which I’ve heard are easier than AP Lang but still). Does anyone have any advice on whether or not I should study AP Lang (or any of the above for that matter)? Thanks!
While I do worry about you trying to cram so many APs in, especially WH which is very difficult, I won’t focus on that.
AP Lang, IMO is an incredibly easy AP to prep on your own for. All I did was take my regular English 11 course, read the crash course book literally 2 days before, and I got a 5 (no joke). I’m also a really strong writer and scored 770/760 on my Reading/Writing sections of the SAT, so you having that will no doubt help you. I would say it is a very common sense exam.
Now, my two cents on another portion- for your other AP, you should self study human geo. APES is known for being pretty difficult. I took APHG, the material was fun and interesting, and got a 5. Very little prep- maybe one practice test that we did in class, and again, reading over the crash course book 2 days before (I have a pattern lol.)
