Hey CCs,
I'm a rising sophomore, and I am debating whether I should self study AP psychology or not.
Just in case, here is my schedule for this year:

ap art history
ap music theory
ap world history
honors English 2
honors Algebra 2
honors chem
honors physics
honors Spanish 2
precal n english (college courses, both taking it during the weekend)

do you think it's too rigorous?
my goal is to get the ap state scholar:)

I think it’s pretty rigorous. But if you can handle it go for it!!! Yes to the self studying AP Psych, I’m doing the same this year.

How do you have 9 classes?

But take your time and decide in Dec/Jan whether or not you want to self-study… Regardless of courseloads, you can easily self-study AP Psych with enough prep in 2 weeks. See if your schedule can allow you to do that.

Yes, I definitely recommend it. AP Psych is not difficult… not much info, concepts are easy… not applied like in Chem or physics.

PS AP National scholar, I think, is easier to get.

“ap art history
ap music theory
ap world history”

Hm are these three going to be self-studies? This year as a sophomore I self-studied Biology(5), Macroecon(5), and Microecon(4) and it was manageable. My advice is not to focus on pure quantity of APs, b/c I think schools like HYPMSC would much rather see one 5 on AP Chem then three 5s on subjects like Human Geography, Psychology, and Environmental Science. Quality over quantity might help, unless you do not have many APs to begin with :]

@stoledmusic: nope, I’m taking those classes at my school. our school has a block schedule which we need to have 8 courses:):)

@kirasam72: Whoa what u say sounds very similar to my school. Which school do u go to (which city/state)?

Your schedule looks insane because of 2 ap histories and 8 classes all of which are AP/honors. Still, if you have to take 8 classes (which is strange), might as well take such hard ones. As for AP Psych, it’s an easy one to self study. If you think you can do it without detracting from your other AP scores, go for it. Go for a 5 though, otherwise self-studying it isn’t that beneficial.
