Should I send in my ACT score or my AP scores for a better chance at getting in?

Hi!
I got a 27 composite score on my ACT (which is below avg) and I got a 5 on APUSH, 4 on AP Lang, and a 3…on AP Bio.

My GPA is 3.93 weighted, I am taking a bunch of AP classes this year, I have leadership positions in my clubs, I’ve interned with a Congresswoman, I’m taking apart in a selective volunteer program from my state’s food bank, and I have accumulated tons of cs hours. I’m not taking the ACT again. NYU’s College of Arts and Sciences is kind of my “reach” school.

Are you sure you don’t want to retake the ACT- it might help since you’re below average.
NYU requires the ACT or the SAT with SAT IIs, so do you have SAT scores you would rather send? If not, you have to send your ACT score.

Yes I’m sure I don’t want to take the ACT again. NYU is my reach but I would still like to apply with the scores I have. My SAT scores are a little worse than my ACTs. But do you think it’ll be better if I send 3 of my AP scores instead of my ACT?

There are little to no stats on how applicants who sent in AP instead of ACT/SAT do, so if you really want a fighting chance I strongly suggest you retake the ACT and apply with your stronger score.

i’m not sure if you’re allowed to send ap scores to replace your act though

but don’t take my word i didn’t try it before so

@sungjong on NYU’s website, it says:
"To be eligible for admission, applicants to NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU New York are expected to submit results from one of the following testing options:

The SAT Reasoning Test; OR
The ACT; OR
Three SAT Subject Test scores; OR
Three AP exam scores; OR
The International Baccalaureate Diploma; OR
Three IB higher-level exam scores (if you are not an IB Diploma candidate); OR
Students may instead elect to submit results from a nationally accredited exam that is considered locally to signify the completion of secondary education and is administered independently of the student’s school."

Under the “SAT Subject Test, AP, and IB Scores” section, it says:
"Results in these tests must be submitted in the form of:

One in literature or the humanities;
One in math or science; and
One test of the student’s choice in any subject"

On the NYU application, it says:
“NYU has a flexible standardized testing policy. Please indicate the tests you plan to provide in support of your application.”

You are allowed to submit scores of your choice, and I’m having the same delimma as the OP. I have a 30 ACT/1420 SAT but a 5 on AP Lang, APUSH, and APWH and a 4 on APES, so I don’t know which scores to submit. Does AP English Lang count as a “literature” score or no?

@thefloridavegan ahhh okay then!! i didn’t know about this before since i just sent everything i took lmao but thanks for clearing it up!

i would think that lang counts as a literature score, but you might want to check with nyu about that. if not, you can always send your APUSh or APWH scores since you can also use your humanities tests
