Should I Send in My SAT Score or Go Test-Optional?

I’m currently doubling up in math, taking both AP Statistics and Pre-Calc Honors, but my math score on the SAT is admittedly weak. I scored a 670 in CR, a 680 in Writing, but only a 530 in Math (I’m not the greatest test taker). I’m in the top 6% of my class, I have taken 7 AP classes thus far (Senior Year = AP Spanish, AP Stat, AP English, AP Environmental Science and AP Spanish), in addition to many other honors classes, and am actively involved/have leadership positions in several clubs. Should I apply test-optional or send in my score? The schools are GWU, Loyola Maryland and American. Also, I intend on majoring in finance or international business.

Look up the Common Data Set for each, section C9, to see where you fall.

If my critical reading and writing scores are above the average, but my math isn’t, should I still not send it in?

That’s difficult. It probably is a wash. My youngest was in the top 25% for CR and the bottom 25% for math at the non-test optional colleges he applied to and did better than I expected him to. (His CR score was very high however.) My main worry is that your math score doesn’t line up very well with your interests, so for that reason test optional might be a better bet.

Send them for Loyola.
