Should I send in these SAT II's for the University of Michigan

I'm going into engineering. I know my math isn't good enoguh.

Also i got a 32 on act, 2100 on sat, have really good essays and ec's. my only problem is bad ranking and gpa. 3.27 weighted, about 55th percentile.took mostly ap and honors classes. my gpa was brought down cause i got mostly 70-75's in my math classes which were always the lowest. thats why i'm even considering sending these math II scores to show i'm at least okay at math. so should i send these, or certain ones, and which ones
i've already been deffered from engineering

Your SAT II math score although not very high is okay, so I don’t see why you wouldn’t send it in. Certainly it would serve to compensate for your math grades.

You may want to rethink your chosen major. College engineering is very math intensive. And advanced science courses rely on math proficiency in calculus and differential equations. Quickness and accuracy in advanced math computations is often essential. College math is an order of magnitude harder than much of high school math. I’ve seen students who have struggled in technical college courses, and there’s very little the college can do to help. Although I’ve heard of students who succeeded despite the struggle, I’ve more often encountered ones who found college a chore. Think also about an eventual job in engineering. Recruiters often look for A and A- students, and typically those college students who struggle with math and engineering courses, especially at state flagships, are more likely to graduate with B- and C+ grades.

okay. I’m just wondering cause i’ve already applied to their engineering school and they dont consider you for undeclared unless you applied for lsa (literature science and arts). I just wanna get in so i can choose to switch later if i decide too.

Send the IIs. They are OK for Mich. Note that Mich neither requires nor recommends IIs but will give some consideration if they help you. In your case, your GPA/rank makes Mich a high reach so anything that might help you should send.

So a 3.27 weighted GPA is what, something under 3.0 unweighted? I agree with drusba, that makes Michigan a high reach despite your strong test scores. Send the SAT IIs, but this is a bit of a “Hail Mary,” especially for Michigan engineering. I’d urge you to think long and hard about your fallbacks.

yeah i know. i have like 10-12 other colleges i’m applying for but michigan is my reach. i just really wanna know if the math II will improve or hurt my already bad math grades and if the other ones will hurt

To be honest, after talking to numerous college counselors, any SAT II score in the 600’s will not hurt you, but they will not help you either.

In this circumstance, I would not send them.

 1. Most Michigan Engineer majors have mid-700’s on the SAT II.
 2. It costs money to send your test scores
 3. You can still reference your scores in the “special circumstance” or “addition information” section without sending them your tests.

But I am a little confused – you were deferred from the Engineering program but can send in more information now?

deffered just mean i was denied for early action. their gonna look me over again for regular admission
