So I just got into Barnard College last week and today what would have been my financial aid package arrived in the mail saying I am missing a form. That is, I sent in my FAFSA and CSS profile, but did not realize that my dad’s tax return needed to be faxed. Such a careless mistake, I know, but I was a mess during application season and wasn’t on top of things, especially because I didn’t think I would even get into the schools I did. Anyway, they said I will still be eligible as long as I fax it before the 31st. Tomorrow I will be going to the library to fax it. That brings me to my question: I got an amazing financial aid package from Macalester and am wondering if I should fax it while I’m already at it as I feel Barnard’s won’t be as generous. However, I feel that would probably be premature for many reasons and probably weird as well. But, I already typed this out so might as well ask!
Thanks in advance!
Wait.
@twoinanddone thanks for responding. I figured I should wait as well-- I’m just freaking myself out a little over fin aid.
Do not send it. Get your forms in ASAP and see how their aid comes out. If you need to appeal your Barnard award and are getting too close to May 1, ask both schools for a short extension on giving a decision. Just shoving another school’s aid package at them is counterproductive. Come back here for advice if your Mac offer is better before appealing, too.
@intparent Thank you for your advice! I will not be sending it. I will definitely come back for more advice if I need to appeal.
Speaking from personal experience, Barnard has very generous financial aid and meets 100% of documented need. Note however that it does use its own formula, so this may result in some differences should you have significant capital assets etc. And Barnard is not a “no loans” university and they will not agree to remove loans from your FA unless you have an outside scholarship. In that case, they will use the external award to replace your loans and CWS.
