Depend on the schools, however I would highly recommend that you send the ACT score

How does it depend?!

Obviously I’m sending the ACT. Do I send the SAT?

bump

[10char]

Depends on the school, but I probably wouldn’t. They are ok, but the ACT is excellent.

Can you give me an example of when I should send the SAT and when I shouldn’t??

Most schools ask for either the SAT or the ACT. Not Both!

BUT…many schools also say “Let us sort it”. My D’s stats are very similar to yours (2210/34). I’ve advised her to send both everywhere. They’ll see you’re consistently a top performer. IF their “forumula” (that they swear doesn’t exist) allows only one score, then THEY will know which is their top score…but it’s hard for us to guess. The comparison charts SAT to ACT to vary quite a bit, both depending on where you find it AND what year/sitting. Also, even though they mostly say they value each equally…I don’t buy a word of it. I’m sure one school or one reader has (at least a subconscious) preference. Example…you’ll hear talk bandied about that the ACT is on subject matter and the SAT is your learning potential. Or that ACT is the Midwestern test, etc. So…why not just send both. Show you’re well rounded and can “do it all”. Or at least try to read between the lines. At any given college…do they say that 97% of their applicants submitted SAT scores and only 6% submitted ACT? Another example, NYU allows SO many different options for sending in standardized scores. But, on their “forums” website, they consistently advise students just to send all scores. They WANT to see you in your best light. If a persons sends one score, and nothing else…that tells them something about the student. But if another sends a nice SAT and a nice ACT and several APs…I think that paints a different picture. The first applicant might have been as “good” or better…but the reader can’t really KNOW that unless more information is divulged. Just sayin’…

I don’t necessarily disagree with R124etc…but I do have another thought which goes into the “it depends” category (sorry)…

depending on the schools you are applying to:

1) are they the typ of schools that are stat hungry; by that, I mean, USNWR rank hungry? if they are, they might like to record your 790 math SATI grade while ignoring the remainder of the SAT and admit based on your 34 ACT composite…you see, schools cannot submit individual ACT scores to the reporting agencies for rankings…so the 790 may make someone’s day…

2) if you are applying to what I call, “normal” or “holistic” admission schools, your ACT by itself is obviously better and would be more than sufficient for admission…

3) I still believe there are some schools that may take your lower SAT CR into account (as a negative) even if they say they don’t…not that it’s low by any “normal” account, but again it’s those pesty reporting requirements.

so again, it depends…what’s your list look like?

Another…add on:

My D took the SAT as a Jr. Then decided to take the ACT as a Senior. Her ACT was very slightly better, showing a slight upward trend, which colleges like. And her SAT IIs are 780/750. Since at least 2 of her colleges require SAT I with SAT II OR the ACT alone…it’s just so hard to judge! That’s pretty much why I think it’s sometimes in the best interest to send all. Just because THEY know what they’re looking at, and I’d hate to think she “outguessed” herself and missed an opportunity.

My list is:
Stanford
Cornell
Duke
Northwestern
Rice
Harvey Mudd
USC
Colorado Boulder

Right now I am leaning towards sending the SAT, since I will be sending my subject test scores anyways, and I am applying to engineering schools which are less likely to look at the SAT reading score and more likely to look at the 790 Math score.

Sounds like a good idea…good luck!!
