I received a 1910 on the SAT CR:620, MATH:630, WRITING:660.
UW GPA: 3.8
weighted: 4.23. Rank: 18/503.
Have taken 6 APs and 8 honors throughout my 4 years.
I also have great ECs and am EIC of newspaper and president of debate, have been playing varsity sport for 3 years, and have been playing piano for 11 years. I am afraid my SAT score will hurt me in the admissions process.
Should I submit my SAT to Wake Forest and George Washington University?
Also, I want to apply to Bowdoin without test scores as their average test score is much higher than mine, so if anyone could tell me my chances there with my above stats that’d be great. And if anyone could suggest other schools that I’d have good chances of being accepted to that’d be appreciated as well! I am a senior in California. I feel like I have too many low reach, reach schools (you can see from my other threads). Thanks!
For test optional schools, I would only submit scores that are higher than the school’s average. Since GWU had a ~1950 average before the SAT became optional, and Wake Forest has a ~1970 average, I wouldn’t submit the 1910.
@goldenbear2020 I’m afraid the school may think my scores are worse than they are. I know they’re not great but… For wake forest I thought I was near the 50the percentile of admitted students sat scores because their 25th percentile is 1820 (according to Princeton review)
Wake Forest has a 25th percentile ACT of 28 (which corresponds to a 1260 CR+M SAT), so if you submit your scores (1250 CR+M SAT), they’d have to decide to admit you despite your scores hurting their average for US News reporting purposes.
When we visited Bowdoin we were told by our admissions rep that she wished more students did not send scores because if they are sent they must be taken into consideration. She was highly supportive of not submitting, in fact she went to Bowdoin herself and did not submit scores when she applied.
Exactly…if the bottom half of Bowdoin’s students didn’t send in their scores, their median ACT would instantly increase to their 75th percentile of 34!
Don’t send anything below a 31 ACT to Bowdoin; even a 31 should be very carefully considered as to how it appears in the context of the rest of the application. 32+ = green light.
I don’t know how GW and Wake Forest approach their “below median” scores. But truly Bowdoin does not encourage you to submit scores near their bottom quartile.
Was wondering the same thing. Son chose to send SATs to his test optional schools. His CR and W are at or above the 75th percentile for all; his M is very low. He felt that his scores are representative of him, though, warts and all, and his reasoning was that if they don’t think he’s a good fit with his low M then he’s probably not a good fit. I thought that was wise. Risky, maybe, but will see what happens …
