Should I send my subject test scores to Duke?

Duke requires either the SAT and 2 subject tests or the ACT with writing. I sent my ACT because I didn't think I'd do well on my Subject Tests. Howevever I got a 28 on the ACT so I sent my SAT which was a 2010. I also just retook my ACT and I'll find out in a couple weeks about that but I still did not have any intention of sending my subject scores. However I just recieved my SAT Subject tests and I got a 680 on physics and a 710 on Math 2. Clearly my SAT and ACT are not up to par but would my subject test scores help or hurt me? Btw I'm and African American female applying to the Pratt School of Engineering. i realize that Duke is a reach for me but you never know. So basicallly, my question is should I send these scores or not??

Bump

Bump again

No because for Duke, you will be competing against people who have 800 Math II and 800 Physics. An 800 in Math II is especially easy to get, and scoring in the low 700s, as crazy as it sounds, is not too impressive because it is nowhere near the 90th percentile. As for physics, a 680 is only around the 50th percentile for the nation. In essence, these scores are not really competitive for Duke’s Engineering school, or really it’s school of Arts and Sciences. If I were you, I would retake and aim for mid 700 to 800 for both tests. Sorry if this post made me seem like a jerk, I’m really not trying to be one.

Well it’s too late to retake them and I already sent it so I guess I’ll just suffer the consequences. It’s a reach school anyway.

I see that you sent them, and that was my suggestion… seeing as how you had already applied (with low scores), those scores potentially are going to help you. They aren’t bad scores. Kevin is right, but not very polite :-). If the rest of your application is strong, essays are well written, recommendations are outstanding, evidence of passion is strong, you never know what might happen :-).

BTW, this would have better been posted in the Duke forum.

Thank you for youe input, I appreciate. And yes I have strong extra curriculars as well as essays. My interview went very well as well

While Kevin is correct that Duke has plenty of applicants with near perfect scores, that isn’t a guarantee. Colleges like Duke are known to reject students with near perfect stats, because they also look at the other aspects of a student’s application.
As discussed on the other thread, these scores are higher than the OP’s ACT math and science scores, and so it should help to show the achievement. There is also no time to retake them. The OP has indicated that she is waiting on recent ACT scores, and if they are higher, Duke will see the improvement.
A student must at show they are academically qualified to succeed at Duke, and the OP is. Past that, with a 5% acceptance rate, it is unpredictable… and a long wait for all who are applying.

The sad thing is that this is accurate. There are ~29000 applicants yet to be evaluated and only ~800 seats left.

Yep, it feels about as predictable as winning the lottery, but someone who has a ticket wins, so you have to buy one. The OP has a ticket.
Hold on to that ticket and come back to let us know how it goes.

Haha I like all the metaphors. I’ll be sure to let you guys know come April 1st

@Pennylane2011 just giving you an update that I have been accepted into Duke and am now trying to pick where to attend in the fall
