I really hope I don't sound like an idiot here (lol) but I left a couple of blanks on my college application a few days ago and I thought about sending the college an email explaining why so that it wouldn't hurt my chances of getting in. I didn't tell them my ACT score when it asked because I haven't received it yet, but I don't want them to think that I left it blank because I got a low score. But I'm wondering if I should send it because I don't know what kind of impression it would make. The thing is that an ACT score isn't even REQUIRED for me to be admitted, because I have a GED, so I don't know if it would make a difference anyway. Should I send it? And how should I type it? I know I should make it sound formal but just tell me what you think of this:

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is (my name) and I submitted an undergraduate application to (name of college) on February 10. While filling it out, I checked the box stating that I have taken the ACT and this is true. However, I haven't received my score report yet because I took it just recently. So when the application asked me for my score, I wasn't sure what to do so I left it blank. I just wanted to inform you of this in case there was any confusion and I apologize for sending this so many days later!

I don't think that sounds good, but I'm probably just worrying way too much. Please help me!

They don’t take the score directly from you anyway, you need to have it officially sent to the college for them to consider it. Have you done that? And did the application ask about what date you took the test? If it did, then no need to contact them, they would know not to expect it yet. Also… if your score is not good, will you be sending it anyway?

Well I guess it isn’t necessary for me to have it sent since it isn’t an admission requirement then is it? I don’t even know what my score is anyway. I don’t think it asked me about the date, but I could be wrong. I guess if I had to send it I would, unless my score is under 19 because that’s the minimum to be accepted. I’d rather not to be honest. Lol.

Are you sure about the situation that you don’t need ACT. It doesn’t make sense the reason you gave. If you send any letter.

Dear Admissions,

I took the ACT on X date and will have it sent to you. I wanted to let you know because it wasn’t indicated on my application.

Your full name
Your date of birth

Check on the ACT requirements, and if they are required, then a short e mail as BrownParent suggested is all you need to send.

If the ACT is not required, and you are planning to see the scores before sending it, then do not send an e mail at this time. If you decide not to send the scores, the college will wonder why they did not receive them.

Once you see them, if you wish to send them, you could notify the school that they are on the way, using BrownParent’s example:

Dear Admissions,

I took the ACT on X date and a score report is being sent to you. I wanted to let you know because it wasn’t indicated on my application.
