Should I skip 10th grade?

I've been offered a chance to do so, since apparently I have all the credits and I'm qualified - I'm just wondering if it's looked down upon to do just 3 years of high school in the eyes of colleges. Also, there's a dual-enrollment program in a CC nearby - which means I can earn my A.A. at the same time if I wanted to, starting in 11th grade, or next year, if I theoretically follow this plan.
Would this be wise? I've been stalking your forums forever, but I really don't know how this would affect college admissions. I'm looking into MIT, UC at Boulder, UF and a few others for (applied) physics... I know a lot of these schools are used to kids who do the same thing.
A few people have claimed doing this will burn you out. I'm really passionate about physics, though - especially the astro- strain - and sure, I do research outside of school among other things, but if an opportunity passes my way I can't help but consider it seriously.
Thoughts?

(Current 9th grader)

have fun being younger than everyone else in your grade then

My words of advice would be to enjoy all four years of high school.

High school is probably the greatest time of your life. No stress, no worries, and plently of young, fun people to be around. I’m a Senior, and take it from me, it went way too fast. Don’t get me wrong, college is going to be a blast, but I’m definitely going to miss the times and memories I had in High School.

Don’t cut yourself short and miss out on a year that you will regret later in life.

If you feel ready overall, then go for it. But I wouldn’t recommend it personally, from the people I’ve met who have skipped grades (esp later on).

Naw don’t do it. It’s just really unnecessary.

Simple answer, no! You only have a few more years of childhood left, don’t rush through it.

I say yea you should do it

Why miss out on an extra year to take more high school classes? Won’t it improve your chances of admission even more?

@supergenericman

Yea I agree with you.

It’s simple if you have more time in high school you will find your passions, you will have, hopefully, looked more into colleges. Also, you get the chance to take more AP classes and apply for more scholarships and take the SAT and ACT. To put it short, you have more time to do more! One year in high school is crucial for anyone, and if you are really advance you can take online classes (like me) and visit the colleges you are truly interested in.

Also, what is your GPA and what classes have you taken that have prepared you for junior year. I got straight A’s in my sophomore year, and I am in my high school honors program, but I am having a hard time in my AP classes.

HONORS CLASSES --------------------------> AP classes is a hard!

So I’m guessing you live in FL and I did…well no, I’m doing the same thing.
I’ll get my AA at the end of 11th grade and I’ll have just turned 16.
Downside is that I’ll graduate from college at 18 (if I stay in FL or GA)…yeah sooo thats kind of lame. :(

High school is kind of bad on an academic perspective (either too hard or too easy), but it’s a great place to develop socially and make great friendships. Don’t skip a grade, but I don’t see why you can’t start your A.A. degree in your 10th grade year anyway.

MIT and UC at Boulder are rather, umm, different in level of prestige, you know.

Actually being younger than most of your follow classmates isn’t all that bad (speak from experience)

^ Agreed. No one ever cared how old I was as long as you’re cool to hang out with.

True (I’m actually one of the youngest in my class), but spending 4 full years in high school allows for necessary maturation to occur.

^Yep I am a 14year old 10th grader have lots of friends.

to the OP I say you shouldn’t do it get more credits its fun! After this summer I will have enough credits to graduate but I don’t want to just going to become a junior

DON’T RUSH YOUR LIFE!
