"Should I stay or should I go, baby you've got let me know."

Okay, here's the situation.

I'm an incoming first-year student to Penn. The New Student Orientation is from Thursday, September 3rd to Tuesday, September 8th. Unfortunately, there's a conference in Washington DC that I need to attend which will be running from September 4th-7th.

I sent an e-mail to the program coordinators of the NSO via the NSO website with my dilemma and they simply told me to come to the Student Services Expo in Houston Hall on September 3rd to pick up my essentials there before taking off for Washington DC.

My pre-major adviser on the other hand has recommended that I skip the conference and stay for NSO (saying to the effect of "get your priorities straight"). I suppose he has a point, but this is a national-level conference that I'm very involved in and in order to rise through the ranks, it's imperative that I attend each annual conference.

What do you all think? "Should I stay or should I go?"

Philip

I’d try and see if I could balance both. It’s pretty easy to travel between DC and Philly, especially if you have the money. You really should be at Penn on the 4th to meet your pre major advisor. The rest of it is questionable. There are certain social advantages to being in the dorms during NSO, but many people I know have “NSO friends” and the real friends they have throughout college. Convocation on the 8th is pretty big too (not impreative you go, but still I’m glad I went) so you might want to come back for that.

The best way to balance it might be leaving after meeting your premajor advisor on Friday and coming back Tuesday afternoon.

nice title

Dude, NSO is the best week of college until Fling. Just putting that out there.
