This is my second year in college and I have a 2.9 gpa. I got a D in one of my bio courses so I took it again and got a B. I took physics and got a C. I’m currently talking organic chemistry and I know I’m going to fail it. ( I don’t know if I should take a F or D)
I want to be a doctor* so I want to transfer to another cuny school. Start with a fresh gpa and possible retake that bio class, physics and orgo.
I think transferring and starting with a new goa would help me when applying to med school. But I’m not sure.
Should I stay or should I go

Where are you now? Can you explain why you are getting low grades?
Your goal of becoming a doctor is not looking good right now. There are a LOT of health care jobs. When you go to the hospital you see a lot of medical professionals, and most of them are not doctors. You might want to check on what the full range of possible medical jobs are and which of them are more realistic.
I go to a cuny school and I wasn’t focused in school.
I’m only 18 so I don’t think I should give up being a doctor now
“I wasn’t focused in school” and “I want to be a doctor” are fundamentally incompatible.
I have known multiple premed students. It is quite rare to see any of them without a large book in front of them. You need to decide NOW whether you want to be totally focused on school or you want to give up on being a doctor.
I don’t think that transferring will allow you to get away from your current grades. You have to start getting all A’s to offset the grades that you have already gotten.
^What Dad said. Transferring is not going to erase your bad grades - you are required to submit your college transcripts when you transfer and those grades will factored into your “fresh start” grades for your GPA.
Sorry to be blunt, but you need to start getting serious about your academics or find a different career path.
Okay would you recommend taking a D or F in orgo
Both will hurt your med school aspirations. Badly.
The best option would be to withdraw from the class if that is still an option.
If that’s not an option, try to salvage the best grade you can.
With your grades, transferring will not get you into medical school. They do a comprehensive review. But as other posters have said, you should explore your medical related options. There’s way more than just being a doctor.
To add to what other users have said…
You’ll hear a lot of talk on pre-med forums on “weeder” classes, classes that can “make or break a premed”, but in truth, the biggest “weeder” as a pre-med is maturity. It takes maturity to establish the discipline, effort, and mindset to successfully enter a medical school. Very few are fortunate to gain this maturity early. Some don’t at all.
AS OF NOW, the prospect of medical school is unrealistic. But perhaps that can be turned around. To have any hope of recovering that GPA, I think that once the semester ends you should seriously sit down and take a candid, comprehensive view of why you’re not performing as well as you’d like.
Best of luck.
If you can withdraw without any notation on your transcript, that would be the best option. But, if your school would mark it W-F, as in Withdrew, but Failing, then that’s as good as an F.
The only reason that you might take an F, is IFF your school offers 100% grade replacement for a retake. In other words, the school wipes out the first grade (F) and replaces it with the new grade (hopefully, B+ or better). And by wipe-out, I mean completely removes the F and class from the transcript permanently. It would look as if you took a light load this semester. (Some colleges do this, but most do not.)
