Should I stay or should I go??

Sorry for the bad clash reference.

I wasn't sure what area to post this in, but seeing as a transfer student is a potential possibility then I figured this was the appropriate forum.

I have a decision to make but can't find viable advice because the people I talk to are biased. I am a resident of Indiana, but moved to Colorado about a year ago. I moved in with my sister here and have been working as an engineering technician at a technologies contractor. I recently applied to school here, but did not get accepted due to poor grades that I received at the end of my freshman year because of medical reasons. I have not been able to gain in-state residency because I was unable to prove that I was an independent. Because I didn't get accepted I am at a crossroads. Should I return to Indiana University in Indiana and study either biophysics or biotechnology, or attend a community college in Colorado, bring up my grades, and gain in-state residency and attend Colorado State University as a Biomedical/Electrical engineering major.

Pros of attending IU are that I would be able to start in the fall and not pay out of state tuition. I would be able to fix the grades that I got at the end of my freshman year to bring up my GPA.

Pros of staying in Colorado: I have a fairly decent job that is good experience for a future in engineering. Lifestyle in Colorado is great.

I have friends and family at both places so that is pulling me equally from both sides. The problem with going to community college is that I have already taken my gen eds and if I went to one I would not be able to take anything that would benefit my major at a university. I have already taken a year off and would need another year a community school to bring up my GPA.

This is a really tough question. I am not sure anyone here really has the answer for you. You are your best expert on this one :). I am leaning towards returning to IU, but honestly, either path is a good path.

Does IU replace grades if you retake the courses that you did poorly in? Or is it more of just retaking so that you get the credit, but all grades will remain calculated into GPA? Just wondering how much it will help your GPA…that may make a difference.

From my understanding, as log as I retake it and get a better grade it will replace it. I’m leaning more towards Indiana University as well. I just have family pulling in the other direction but ultimately I feel I should do what is bet for me, not them.
