I'm currently a sophomore at Indiana and am considering transferring to a smaller school. Though I love Bloomington and like IU in theory, in practice it just isn't a great fit for me socially and, from an academic standpoint, I'm not really being challenged. I would like to transfer at the end of the year, but my big concern, especially with wanting to transfer to a small LAC, is that being accepted into the social community at a small school halfway through my academic career will be difficult. Also, especially with the economy the way it is, I can't necessarily afford to go to the schools I really think would be good fits for me.

Right now, if money were no object, I'd probably want to transfer to either Grinnell or Kenyon. I didn't apply to Kenyon but was accepted with a merit scholarship at Grinnell the first time around. Does anyone know if either of those schools give any merit money to transfers?

Also, any suggestions of schools I should consider? I'll give a quick stats rundown. I'm an English major, so small LACs (ideally in the Midwest, but I'll be open-minded) with strong English departments would be great.
