<p>Call and ask them before you send anything not requested. You may annoy them. "This kid can't read directions!"</p>
<p>Stick with Chedva, don't send anything the college does not ask for.</p>
<p>If a college actually says recommendations are "optional" that means they may actually read them particularly if you are a borderline candidate that could go either way. Many colleges, however, neither require them nor say that recommendations are optional and,in fact, don't want them and won't consider them if provided.</p>
