Should I submit my SAT if I did not do good in the essay portion?

I took the SAT with Essay earlier this year and did not do good in the essay part. Got two 6’s and a 2. There are some colleges I will be applying to that my regular SAT score is in the upper end of their 50% range. With my essay score being low, should I still send in my SAT if they are test optional? I’ve heard a lot of colleges don’t even look at the essay portion but it still makes me wonder. Thank you

No college other than West Point cares much about the essay score. Submit.

Okay thank you for the response

This is a good question, because the common app asks whether your SAT included an essay and if you say Yes, you are asked to report that score. Even though no or few schools ask for an essay, it seems like admission committees seeing that score would not be good.

As an aside, if you choose to report the EBRW or M score from a sitting that Included the essay, you are obligated to answer yes to the question.

Agree with ski that they don’t pay much attention to the essay score.

I wouldn’t worry if you did not do well on the essay - few, if any, schools consider it.

If your M+EBRW is above the mid-point of the interquartile range, I would recommend submitting it.

(With exceptions like a very low M and high EBRW score, averaging out to around the mid-point, applying as a STEM major)
