Hi, I am a junior in my highschool and have been evaluating what I should do for next semester. Right now I am in honors english, honors precalc, honors chemistry, and APUSH. At the beginning of the year I was in AP chem and it was a double period (0,2) and it was very hard to keep up with all my classes because I also had to devote alot of time to Leadership, because Im the president of the junior class. However, leadership becomes alot less work in 2nd semester, so I’ve been thinking about going back into the AP. However, instead of doing AP Chem I could do Jazz band. I have been playing an instrument for 4 years, and stopped in 10th grade. I could switch back 2nd semester, and could possibly get put in the 2nd or 3rd highest jazz band we have in our school. Our jazz program is pretty well respected so Ive been evaluating those options to. Right now the only B i will have is in math, because im not that good at math :(. What should I do? Thanks!
I would not recommend trying to switch back into AP Chem second semester. First of all, you’d have to do extra work to make up stuff you missed from first semester, and second, will your school even allow that?
Either way, I would recommend sticking with honors chemistry and maybe pick up jazz band. But I really don’t think you should go back to AP Chem.
At my school, honors Chem is like Chem I in college stretched out over the whole year, while AP Chem is like Chem I first semester and Chem II second semester. If yours is the same, switching back would leave you half a semester behind, leaving you just as stressed as last semester. Plus, Chem II is even more math heavy than Chem I, which is pretty math heavy already. If math is your lowest grade, you might want to hold off on AP Chem. I would not recommend it.
