I took German freshman and sophomore years, gettting an A in both. We didn’t have it offered junior year since there wasn’t enough students. Now German 3 is offered, but I choose to take western civ. instead. The colleges I want to attend the most, both of which I have a great shot at, only require two years. One school, of which I have a slight interest in requires 3 years of German. I feel that I would enjoy western civ. more since I had the teacher last year, and becuse the fact that I want to major in public affairs. Should I take that 3rd year of German, or stay with Western Civ.?

Tough decision. Many colleges want 3 for admission but if you are not applying to those you do not necessarily need it. However, one thing you should do is check those colleges to which you are intending to apply for what they require in college not just for admission. There are colleges that have foreign language requirements that you must meet to graduate college, and sometimes you may meet that requirement by having 3 years of a single language in high school. In other words, the college may require 3 semesters of language in college but you may be able to meet that requirement by having 3 years of language in high school but not two, thus your decision may mean the difference between having to take foreign language in college and not having to do so.
