I’m a junior and i’ve taken Alg 2(reg.), Geometry(reg.), Precalc at local community college(so college level), and AP Calc this year (ab)(I’ve gotten A’s in all of them), my school doesn’t offer a higher math than Ap Calc ab. Some say i should retake ( I’m getting A’s so I don’t really see the point). Should I just not take a math senior year since I’ve taken up to the highest level? Is that technically 4 years of math?
Note: only junior in my class taking ap Calc
What are you planning on majoring in in college? Is Calc II and beyond at a community college an option? Or AP Stats?
Agree it’s pointless to retake a class that you’ve passed.
I agree with @skieurope
Try and take Calc BC some place nearby or take AP Stat if you can’t take BC.
Bruh, just take the math. Colleges like it when you push yourself. It’ll look better than taking a pottery class as a substitute.
@skieurope thinking of Biomedical engineering/ civil engineering, mcdb(molecular, cellular, developmental biology, or pre-med in route to Anesthetic focus). Calc 2 is an option at the college I believe but it’s expensive. My school doesn’t offer AP Stat .
@Kawaiiii I search around and see if I can find a summer class or something that doesn’t conflict with the summer programs I’m doing this year
@elitelow I actually have been taking practical arts since freshmen year and I’m going to need a fine art (maybe pottery class, called ceramics at my school but I’ll most likely take photography if I can)
Thanks for the responses guys! You helped clear my confusion up
Definitely try to go to your CC and see if you can take a higher math. You can get college credit and impress admissions.
I would suggest you take Math senior year. AP Stats is not really that hard, just repetitive. If you plan on applying to schools like Caltech or MIT than you should seek out a dual-enrollment program
New question: I will be taking a math senior year at a local cc for either Calc 2 or Linear Algebra. The question now is whether to take the math in the fall or spring semester?
Ideally, Calc 2 in the Fall and LA (or Calc 3) in the Spring).
Thanks @skieurope ! People in the office are trying to discourage me from taking it in the fall because they think it would be too much with college apps etc. which is frustrating because I know I could do it and excel.
How easy is it to switch if it truly is difficult, from Calc2 to Calc1? (Calc 1 at college is like Calc AB on steroids).
Can you ask a Calc1 prof for a typical final (a recycled one, one that’s no longer in use) and take it, to see if you’re comfortable with the material and can handle Calc2? That would reassure your “people in the office”.
@MYOS1634 that’s a great idea! I’ll make sure to ask one of the adjuncts, thanks for the help!
You have good suggestions. Make sure you take math senior year.
