Should I take AP Chem?

I am a freshmen right now and I have my course selection soon.
My classes next year would be
Honors Pre-Calc
Spanish 2
Chemistry (AP?)
Eng 10 H
APWH
psychology

I got all A so far in my freshmen year and I’m pretty sure I will get all As this year. I am very good at math but I’m just mediocre at science, so I’m wondering if I should take AP Chem.

AP Chem is the hardest AP in my school, there’s only about 10 people in that classes each year, and many people who had that classes said it’s very hard, but if I don’t take AP Chem this year I won’t be able to later because I want to take other AP classes and I don’t want to overwhelm myself.

How hard is AP chemistry? What is it about? Should I take it? If I do take it, should I try to get some prior knowledge by self studying or maybe doing an online course on chemistry during the summer?

Also, I’m planning to go to medical school, so I felt like I should take it, but I don’t want to get a low grade in that class.

Thanks!

Have you taken a regular chemistry class beforehand? I have had a great experience in my AP Chemistry class senior year after having taken an honors chemistry class sophomore year. My class is known to be tough, but that results in high scores on the AP test so I may not be the best judge. Best of luck!

No I did not take any chemistry class before.

If you have not taken a chemistry class before, AP Chem will be very difficult. You have to have an intuitive knowledge of the way things work; some of my friends have gotten C+s in AP Chem despite having taken Honors Chem before. Unless your school’s AP Chem class is meant for people with no chemistry background, it will probably be quite difficult for you.

Okay I’ll take regular chemistry first, my school does not offer honors, it’s either AP or regular
