I am currently a sophomore and taking regular chemistry which is really east I want to take ap chem next year but many people tell me not ho difficult will it be and what do you recommend. P.S I am taking ap psychology and ap English language next year.
Why would you let other people dissuade you if you are interested in taking the class. Nobody on this site knows if you will find it easy or hard. You would know that better than anyone. Regardless, you should not avoid taking hard courses.
I haven’t taken honors and they say I will miss out on things that honors took that are connected to AP.
ik ap chem is a notoriously challenging course, but if you are willing to put in the work and are interested I would say go for it
but if youre not intrested at all don’t bother
chem honors DEFINITELY helps with the first semester & the beginning of second semester with ap chem, in my opinion. i’ve seen the chem cp books in my school from a friend, though, and some of the concepts are still (of course) related to honors/ap chem (nomenclature, ionic/covalent bonds, electronegativity, lewis structures, etc).
the class itself - i don’t know about your school, but in mine, our teacher sucks. he’s infamous for his notoriously low pass rate on ap exams (20% pass, and only around 10 people have gotten 5s - he’s taught for about 5-6 years). i’ve heard regardless of the difficulty of the class itself, self-studying is essential if you want to do well on the exam.
if chemistry is a subject you’re excited about, definitely do it! your determination, i’m sure, can carry you through the class if you’re willing to put in the work and self-study. however, if you’re just doing it for a grade boost (sorry to make the assumption! i know some people who have ah) it’s not worth the stress and the hassle.
hope this helps!
Im in Honors Chem right now and at times it can be stressful. I plan on taking AP Chem my senior year. If you are genuinely interested in all that Chem has to offer, I would go for it.
