Should I take AP English if Im becoming an Engineer?

In my senior year, there is an English teacher who is notorious for handing out Bs and Cs, and only the very best get As. Since I am becoming an engineer, is it worth taking? Im taking Calc BC, Physics C, and Stats AP. But I feel only three APs feels a little too low.

Well, if you need an English class, AP Lang and Comp will be fine, but only if you can handle it. No matter what you major in you will have to fulfill the graduation requirement of your university. Why not take an AP so you can knock out a class?

AP English will teach you to be a better writer and reader, and while this is not directly related to engineering, it is crucial for lifelong success. If you become an engineer who cannot properly structure a sentence then you’ll never move up in the corporate world. Communication is important for every job whether it be engineering, writing, or waitressing. Push yourself to be one of the very few who gets an A! The class will definitely help you in the long run.

relax, it’s senior year. enjoy yourself. Taking Engl in college isn’t bad. Heck I actually learned some applicable skills for other classes

If you can get some English credit at your university then I recommend that you take it. Engineers have tons of require classes in college and having one less lass would be better for you.

Yes, yes, yes! AP English Language is the easier of the two, but if you can knock off that freshman year English, bam!

I’m going to love college, I only have to take Sophomore English and one other writing intensive General Education course and I’m done with that type of stuff in school forever!

No, I would strongly recommend that you DON’T take AP english unless you feel very confident in your writing and analysis abilities

Some say yes, some say no…this is going to be a hard decision indeed. I hate reading/writing, however if I can knock it off, why not?

It depends on what kinds of colleges you’re applying to. If you’re applying to the top colleges, they’ll be expecting you to be taking your schools toughest courses.

I agree with photodad. Also, check to see if you’ll even get credit for the class in college. Think of it this way, if you take it now, that’s one less English class in college which means one more engineering elective.

You only need to make sure you dont get a C in the first semester.

I would say don’t take it.

Only take an AP if you think you are good in that subject.

My son took 14 AP courses.

He is liberally arts oriented, so had trouble with Chemistry AP and Calculus AP.

Your situation is the exact opposite, and you may have trouble in the course.

I took AP Lang my junior year and currently taking AP Lit. I have been making solid B’s in those courses. Honestly, I feel inferior to my friends whenever essays return. They make 6 or 7’s while I make 5/6. But then I forget about my problem when APMC practice returns. My teachers are proud if you make at least 50% on those things.
Unless you’re worried about GPA, I say take the course if you plan to work diligently.
