I am not sure if I should take AP Lang during my Junior year. Currently I am a Sophomore and one of the top scorers in my school when it comes to science and math. However, my weakest subject is English and I find that I have trouble liking any aspect of it. I realize that AP Lang will help improve my reading and writing skills in preparation for college, however I also realize that I may not do well in it if I do take it.
These are the classes I’m planning to take during my Junior year:
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus
AP United States History
AP Psychology
It takes me forever to complete an essay or do any assignment for English. I’m afraid that if I take AP Lang, then it will take up all of my time. I want to do well in all the other AP’s plus AP Lang, however if AP Lang takes up all my time, then it may not be the best for me. Currently I am maintaining an A in English Honors, however it may be that the rigor standards aren’t high enough. I am wondering if I should take AP Lang or not? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading.
That schedule is going to be brutal even without AP Lang. Although I’m wondering if it might be best to take AP Lang instead of one of your sciences. I really have no clue if that would effect anything though, but just something to consider. I would ask someone else if that would make a difference in adcomms eyes.
If it won’t make a difference to adcomms, I’d say you are probably ok not taking it if you really think it will be too much. However if you currently have an A, you might be ok taking it. Again I have no idea what the rigor is of that class. I would ask some upperclassmen who have already taken the class about how the workload is and how hard it is.
Honestly there is no shame in just sticking with an honors class. Yes it would be really kick ass if you could pull off all these difficult classes and manage to make your essay writing skills on point and amazing. But if your already admitting it might not be the best for you then maybe you shouldn’t do it. Plus you should really focus on the classes that you really love like the courses you already have. Though perhaps what you can do is ask pole around who’ve taken or are taking the class and see what the think about it. Have them show some of the things that the do in there on a regular ordinary day and then compare it with all the other classes that your taking and see if its worth it.
