Picking my senior year classes, and this is my only question mark at the moment. I've considered taking an Honors/AP english class basically every year in high school, but never have (yeah, no AP Language). However, I've heard that this is the class for people that actually really enjoy reading. I love reading. My main problem with english has been the fact that we read books that, quite frankly, suck.
I digress, without AP Lit I have three APs set up for next year: Physics C, Calc BC, and Economics. That's 5 AP tests (oh joy), so I'm not sure how much I'd want to add another one. Besides, I'm more worried that the workload my senior year may ruin any potential fun I could have.
That being said, having one less english class to take in college would be amazing. Being able to focus on my science/math classes would be glorious (going into engineering), so I'd like to get this out of the way ASAP.
So, the tl;dr...
Should I take AP Lit?
How difficult would you say it is?

im taking ap lit this year and it’s pretty tough. i would say this is one of the tougher exams but that just me. im more of a math person than english. i know from experience how much reading literature books suck but there is no way around it. to pass the exam with a 4 or a 5 you have to be able to read this stuff. the test has an hour long multiple choice section with about 55 questions that make the sat look easy. then you have two hours to write three essays, one on poetry, one on prose and one open ended.

but in the end it matters on if you think you can handle the workload. remember that it is your senior year and you don’t want to miss out on all the fun. on the other hand, if you take the test and get a 4 or 5, you will save money and time in college. if you have been doing well in your english classes up to now go ahead and take it. if you struggled however, you probably shouldn’t. hope this helps you make your decision

You love reading. That’s awesome. Rare lol. But have the books you’ve been reading of ‘literary merit’ if not thats probably why they suck.

Look up a free response for AP lit and look at the list of books of ‘literary merit’ if those books bore you don’t bother taking the class. Also ask the AP lit teacher of the Reading List for the year.

If you love the reading everything else will fall into line.

Yeah, although I’m not reading Shakespearean novels on my own or anything. XD

Personally, I’m more worried about my ability to analyze books. I’ve actually read a couple of the books of literary merit on my own (Brave New World in 7th grade, even), but I always needed the internet or some outside resource to fully understand the book on a level that I feel this course would require.

I’m leaning against taking it, but still open to suggestions.

go into AP lit like you would go into AP Language with the mindset that “Everything is an Argument”

You Analysis of brave new world

where you thought that the pink ponies although they were rebels didn’t have the true fighting spirit to conquer the Romans and you can prove that with the underlying theme of the main character who would refuse to go into battle unless attacked…

Claim + Evidence = Analysis = they can’t tell you you’re wrong
