How difficult is the class?
I would start freshman year with honors level classes. See how that goes. The worst is when I see students taking AP classes as freshman/sophomores and not doing well and all i think is “You are taking college level classes as a freshman that you weren’t prepared for…of course you didn’t do well.” Now some people can do that…but see how you do in HS first before you make a bigger jump.
Is that even an option at your HS? Could you even fit this in with required classes? IMO, you are better off taking one of the traditional APs offered to freshman - World History or Human Geography.
Is it difficult? No. Would one be better served waiting until one has a greater intellectual maturity than the typical 14 year old? Yes, IMO.
You have 4 years of HS to get through. You should start to make a 4 year course plan and see what that looks like first.
Ok, thanks for the feedback!
Here’s the thing: I took an online Pyschology class and I enjoyed it and did pretty well in it but it did not count for credit. I just didn’t want to wait another two years to take the class.
^You should have led with that. How were we supposed to guess?
Was that online Psychology class a HS class? Was it graded?
What else would you be taking freshman year?
Agreed.
However, you still did not answer my question? Will the HS even allow a freshman to take AP Psychology? If the school limits it to juniors/seniors, it is highly unlikely they will make an exception for you, which would make the whole question moot.
Additionally, I fail to see the value-added proposition in retaking a course you have already taken. Surely you have better uses of your time. While there may be additional rigor in AP Psych, it’s akin, iMO, to taking APUSH after Honors USH. Unless the school curriculum is extremely limited, this seems like a waste of your time.
I took Ap World freshamn year and got an A- and a 4 on an exam. It was somewhat hard but I managed perfrctly fine. AP Psych is easier. Pretty much just memorizing a bunch of terms; much of the terms are common sense. If you have the option to take it, I would take it.
